The iconic Ferrari-beating Ford GT40 race car will receive a new whisper-quiet lease on life as the first model to be electrified under a new strategic partnership forged between British EV converter Everrati and US-based rolling chassis specialist Superformance.
The two companies say they’re on a mission “to future-proof automotive icons”, delivering concours-condition classics with a custom battery-electric powertrain.
A prototype of the pure-electric Ford GT40 is currently in development at Everrati’s R&D centre in Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire, where the endurance racer has been stripped of its V8.
Details of the electric powertrain that’s taken its place are still to be confirmed, as are performance claims, but these are expected in the coming months as production draws near.
Everrati already offers fully reversible EV conversions for a number of classic models, while also allowing customers to commission their own electric Porsche 911 (964), Land Rover Series IIA and Mercedes-Benz SL.
The company says meticulous attention to detail goes into each continuation model, with battery location and weight distribution among prime considerations.
Meanwhile, Superformance is well known for manufacturing 1960s-era continuation sports cars.
As well as making a name with the GT40, it has also turned its hand to the Shelby Cobra and Daytona, and the Chevrolet Corvette and Grand Sport, along with rolling chassis replicas.
Everrati founder Justin Lunny described the pairing with Superformance as the “perfect partnership”.
“The sole focus of both Everrati and Superformance is iconic cars and Lance [Stander] and his team are THE guys when it comes to authorised continuation chassis of some of the most legendary cars in history,” he said.
“Marrying these chassis with our advanced EV powertrains and precision engineering will enhance performance while keeping the essence and soul of the original.
“We aim to create the best electric driver’s cars while, at the same time, future-proofing these true past masters.”
