Legion Go to feature Ryzen Z1 APU
Windows Report has new exclusive information on the Lenovo Legion Go handheld device.

The initial images of the new gaming product, which had been a topic of speculation for some time, have already been revealed by the media. Despite experimenting with numerous handheld prototypes, Lenovo has never officially released a standalone device that could be considered a high-end handheld device. However, with the emergence of Valve’s Steam Deck and ASUS ROG Ally consoles, both poised to significantly boost the appeal of such gadgets among gamers, Lenovo is now taking a more committed stance within this market segment.

Lenovo is evidently not content with ceding this territory to its competitors; it aims to establish its own presence. Interestingly, the Legion Go handheld will also be powered by the ASUS Ryzen Z1 APU, a processor that seems to no longer be exclusive to ASUS ROG Ally systems. One thing to note is that it is unclear if the system gets Z1 Extreme or just the Z1 APU, both are very different processors in terms of specs.
A recent video by Windows Report showcases renders and additional details about the device. Some of these renders unmistakably display the presence of the Z1 chip within the console. This particular AMD Phoenix processor with Zen4 and RDNA3 architecture is customized with voltage adjustment capabilities, allowing the APU to operate in lower power modes. Such energy efficiency is important for a device of this kind, and it mirrors one of the primary advantages of the Deck.

The Go handheld is set to be more than a mere contender against the Ally and Deck systems. It can be likened to a hybrid, drawing elements from both devices and incorporating a feature also seen in Nintendo Switch. While it does include the Ally’s Ryzen Z1 APU, it also introduces touchpads akin to those on the Deck. What’s more, the controllers can be detached from the console, a characteristic typically associated with the Switch. Additionally, the console boasts an 8-inch screen, setting it apart from its counterparts.
Notably, the device’s controllers boast rear buttons and a mouse scroll wheel. There’s also a dedicated switch for FPS mode.

Concurrently, Lenovo is in the process of developing a new product for the Legion series—the Legion AR glasses. This offering will be available alongside the Legion Go, suggesting that Lenovo has ambitions to further expand productivity and potentially enrich the gaming experience. The AR glasses appear to be very much alike the Glasses T1 which were announced last year. Their main purpose is to provide “private display for on-the go experience”, meaning the ‘AR’ glasses may not all about augmented reality at all.

The exact launch date for this product remains uncertain as of now. However, the fact that official renders have already been shared with certain partners indicates that a launch is on the horizon, albeit with the specific date undisclosed.
