‘Metal Slug: Code J’ Is Coming To Mobile Courtesy Of Tencent

This article is more than 3 years old.

The arcade classic Metal Slug is getting a mobile update and it actually looks quite good.

Developed by TiMi Studios and published by Tencent and SNK Playmore, the game is taking a 3D graphical route over the 2D original.

That said, the styling and visual delivery are very much akin to the original arcade version, which is pretty amazing really.

The original Metal Slug was released back in 1996 in the arcades and was an instant hit. It was a creative and technical tour-de-force has set the benchmark for 2D graphics in the decades since.

It was also one of the most popular titles on SNK’s Neo Geo console and is definitely a fan favorite among shmup players.

The Metal Slug series has also birthed multiple iterations over its lifespan and is one of SNK’s main franchises. So having it updated like this and coming to mobile, is an interesting choice.

While there are no details on a release date as yet, feel free to check out the Arcade Archives port of the original Metal Slug, as that’s already available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Switch.
