I mean, that could be likely. It all depends on how Rockstar approaches things this time. If they feel confident, then announcing the game like 6-8 months before release would be nice if in 2024 the announcement happens, and later 2025 the release. If they don't feel confident however, they shouldn't announce sh*t and keep the release date until they are 100% certain. Which could mean even a 2025 announcement and 2026 release. But this only if they want to shorten the gap between announcement and release. I know people would be too pissed off if they don't hear anything on VI this or next year, lol

Like others have said, I think R* is aiming for a concrete release date this time around which is why we haven't heard a peep out of them. Based on the leaks, I'd say the game is ready to be shown but again, they won't dare to reveal it unless they're sure that there won't be any delays. Sucks for the inpatient players, but great for the devs.

So we all know that feb 4,2022 gta community post but when you google gta 6 you wouldn't have found that post 

Until October 18,2022, yes on this exact date Rockstar associated that webpage with "gta 6" search term

you can see that by adjusting the search time on google before and after October 18,2022

rdr2 was also announced on October 18th maybe we will get something on that date this year

I think we are for sure going to see a proper reveal this year, prior wisdom would tell us October/November window, but rockstar has already deviated from that pattern with this game so I think it can come anytime.. spring, summer etc. I also think the reveal will be different in nature because of the leak

I've been giving it a bit more thought myself, and I honestly feel like we might not get anything this year either. There literally is no reason for Rockstar to show anything whatsoever. The hype surrounding it won't change one bit. They probably will want to announce it once they have a certain release date set in stone, and then announce it when it's about 6 months until release. But they won't share that news with us yet. Unless, they will, so they can start raking in pre-orders, lol

it be odd for them to announce the game was in development in Feb. 2022 only to announce it 2 years later

IMO the game isn't coming out until 2026 - Considering this, a 2024 official announcement could be a reality. Back in 2020 if you said by the start of 2023 we still wont have an announcement you'd get laughed out the room.

Of course it could be an announcement in 2024 (not that I believe in that) but usually when they announce a game the release is a year later (unless they delay it). Do you believe it will get delayed from 2025 to 2026 then?

I can't tell if those who say 2026 are serious or trolling. I can give people 2025, but 26...? I'm team 2024 myself (2nd half maybe) but who knows.

I think they are mostly tounge in cheek trolling, I’ve been guilty of it. 
 

I agree with you though and think they (Rockstar) are aiming for a short time between official announcement and release.

I think late 2023 announcement and a late 2024 release unless its delayed (which it prob will)

I assume it's mostly people that are either unaware of or are failing to consider Rockstar's insistence on moving away from crunch, and are thus still convinced we're going to get V and RDR2's trailer -> 1 year gap -> second trailer and delay -> 1 more year -> release schedule. My inner pessimist says "sure, Rockstar could backpedal on their stance on crunch and do exactly that," but my inner optimist is on the reveal -> 6 month gap -> release wagon and I'm trying to prioritize its voice for now.

Exactly that, who knows. This is why people should keep an open mind regarding release dates and not accuse others of trolling if they predict a release date that doesn't match up with theirs.

Any prediction is a stab in the dark at this point (including mine) as nobody knows anything apart from Rockstar - even within Rockstar theres probably only 3 or 4 really senior people that know rough dates for the announcement, trailers and the eventual release.

A lot of people think the game will release in '24 or '25 because of the acknowledgment a year ago but I seriously doubt Rockstar wanted to do that, it was obviously just damage control from the fallout of DE. I just get the impression the game is nowhere near to being ready for a reveal. 

Their aimed-always-changing-not-set-in-stone deadline is holiday 2024. Which has been pushed back multiple times the past few years. Unfortunately, it could slip into early 2025 as well.

Speaking of which, most companies are returning with a "forced return to office" policy to revert back to pre-pandemic days. Activision Blizzard is already met with internal backlash. Rockstar is no different. The debate and consequences of the policy is a whole another topic.

With almost the entirety of the workforce in office, Rockstar could be more firm about an announcement this year. Yet, losing work talent could very much lead to more delays.

I personally see an announcement as a given this year. I don't think the upper management is in a position to delay further to holiday 2025/2026. Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release later on may be sustainable for management than delaying further.

Depending of the cut part and how much they'll charge for it later. I hope the game will release with the its complete story from from start to finsh from day one at least.

People despised Henderson due to his 2025/6 prediction, now there is s good chance it will occur that way. Irony of fate 

The funny thing about Henderson is that he predicted the 2024/2025 thing way back before people on here had come to that conclusion, and people were sh*tting on him for it regardless.

I'm not saying he's a 100% reliable source of truth, I'm just pointing out that he made that prediction before a lot of people did.

What do you mean? Them being more careful about showing and announcing things when they're truly ready with more aspects of the game set in stone doesn't mean they can't "market it up like a beast". I agree with the OP's sentiment, I have a feeling that's what's going on, especially when even RDR2 had changes to it that caused delays post-announcement.

Not far-fetched to say we're getting news this year with a release later next year, and if there's a delay it's probably not gonna be as huge. Release dates are a bloody mess in game development, even more so with these big AAA games.

I think its safe to say we will get news this year then it releases next year.
