AMD working on a 6-core Ryzen with 3D V-Cache for the AM4 socket
According to the leak from chi11eddog, AMD might be considering introducing a new AM4 CPU.
The 8-core Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which has just marked its lowest price since launch last year, might soon have a younger sibling. The leak alleges that a product code of 100-00001176 might belong to a 6-core Ryzen AM4 variant now being considered by AMD.
More importantly, this part is said to feature 3D V-Cache and the CPU name is reportedly Ryzen 5 5600X3D. Such a part would feature 6 cores and 12 threads with L2 cache 1MB lower than 5800X3D (3MB). However, the L3 cache, which includes the 3D V-Cache would be of the same size on both parts at 96MB.
It is mentioned that the CPU clocks would be slightly lower than 5800X3D with a base clock at 3.3 GHz and boost up to 4.4 GHz. Those are 100 MHz lower clocks than 5800X3D.

Since the 8-core Ryzen 7 5800X3D is currently retailing at $289, the 6-core part will certainly cost less. We might be looking at a great gaming CPU for the well-established AM4 platform. This part could enable new options for gamers on a budget. On the other hand, by providing more options, the AM5 platform might see less interest unless similar price adjustments are implemented.
