AMD EXPO to overclock your DDR5 memory
In January this year, we learned about a new technology called AMD RAMP (Ryzen Accelerated Memory Profile). Contrary to this report, it seems that the actual name of this technology is different.
We received some interesting details on AMD upcoming technology, called EXPO. But first and foremost, one should explain that EXPO is not an event. AMD EXPO stands for “EXtended Profiles for Overclocking”, which is basically described an alternative to Intel XMP 3.0.
This is not the first time we hear about EXPO though. A trademark for AMD EXPO was filed back in February this year, and judging by the description, it is clearly related to the memory. However, it does not really explain what the EXPO is.
AMD EXPO Trademark
According to our information, EXPO will be responsible for storing two memory overclocking profiles for DDR5 series. The first profile will be optimized for high bandwidth use, whereas the latter will be for low-latency. Our source claims that the second profile is optional.
Furthermore, EXPO will work with all types of DDR5 memory, including UDIMM, RDIMM and SO-DIMM. This means that EXPO is likely to make its way to laptops at some point in the future, while the current Ryzen 6000 “Rembrandt” series are all limited to DDR5-4800/LPDR5-6400 specs.
Just a few weeks ago, AMD said that AM5 will make a big splash with memory overclocking, at least now we know how will this be achieved:
Our first DDR5 platform for gaming is our Raphael platform and one of the awesome things about Raphael is that we are really gonna try to make a big splash with overclocking and I’ll just kinda leave it there but speeds that you maybe thought couldn’t be possible, may be possible with this overclocking spec.
