Since we first introduced Fire TV our mission has been simple: to be the go-to destination for all things entertainment for our global customers. We remain as motivated as ever and continue to deliver entertainment experiences that merge our content-forward interface and the power of Alexa. Customers have embraced this vision, and in Q4 2021, helped us cross a number of important milestones, such as:

But there’s more we can do to extend the modern entertainment experience to wherever customers are — at home or on the go. In Q4, Stellantis was the first automaker to integrate Fire TV and deliver in-car entertainment with the release of the all-new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer and will also bring this same experience to Jeep Grand Cherokee and Chrysler Pacifica.

Additionally, Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator will bring Fire TV built-in to their 2022 models.

BMW and Fire TV deliver an unprecedented Theatre Screen for cars

Today we’re taking the wraps off one of the best in-car experience we’ve delivered yet: BMW Theatre Screen with Fire TV built-in. We collaborated with BMW to build a unique experience that sets a new benchmark for in-car entertainment. The Theatre Screen is an immersive, theater-like experience for rear-seat passengers that offers the highest resolution and biggest display of any in-car Fire TV experience.

BMW Theatre Screen with Fire TV built-in lets rear-seat passengers enjoy a wide variety of content from popular apps¹. This is the first vehicle integration of Fire TV to support content in 4K in a new flagship experience. Customers will be able to stream videos, listen to music, play games, and watch downloaded programs – all while on the road.

Building Fire TV for auto

BMW isn’t the only advancement in auto this year. Overall, to get auto right, we took a concerted focus to deliver a Fire TV experience in cars that doesn’t compromise. To continue to invent on behalf of customers, we needed to deliver an auto experience that hits four key promises.

1. The content you expect

While on the go, your favorite content can come with you. Stream videos, play games, listen to music, get information, and watch downloaded programs — all while on the road. In the U.S., you can access over one million TV episodes and movies on Fire TV built-in, including favorites from Prime Video. For an even better on the go experience, you can download Prime Video movies and TV shows for trips where you can’t rely on cellular or Wi-Fi connections.

2. The same experience you know and love

Launching soon, we’re matching our user experiences across Fire TV with personalized profiles, personalized content recommendations, and an updated home screen, so Fire TV provides a consistent experience whether you’re streaming on the TV in your living room or in the car. This meets an important customer promise that Fire TV is always getting better and will enable a feature we hope customers will love — the ability to pause a show at home and quickly resume in the car.

3. Discovery and controls

Alexa is built-in to the core Fire TV experience, so it’s easy for a rear passenger or parent to use the remote and their voice to quickly find a show or app from within the car. You can even say, “Alexa, show me action movies” or “Alexa, show me the front door” to find something new to watch or to check your Ring doorbell. Beyond voice, Fire TV also offers a touchscreen navigation option that’s unique to auto, providing quick controls within arm’s reach.

From audio to screen selection, Fire TV offers flexibility and control. Vehicles with two rear screens can either watch individual content on each rear display or mirror across both displays to watch together. Parents can even select content from the front seat or limit screen time for the rear screens. For audio, customers can listen via Bluetooth, wired headphones or even the in-car speakers.

4. Integrated Systems
Auto manufacturers have their own services and desired features. Fire TV has the expertise to build integrations with each car company and integrate with audio systems and comfort controls that tailor to brand and customer needs. So for Ford, Jeep, Chrysler, Lincoln, BMW and others, you will see a range of unique features delivered to customers.

It’s still Day 1 for this part of our business, but we already have some great momentum with many of the world’s most recognizable car brands. We look forward to hearing how you use Fire TV on the go in your vehicle this year!

¹ For streaming, requires a Wi-Fi connection and registered Amazon account to run Fire TV in the vehicle. Services or features are subject to change or withdrawal at any time, may not be available in all areas and languages, and may require separate subscriptions.
