Despite being a year old, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the undisputed king of foldable phones. If everything goes accordingly, it will remain on the throne until the Galaxy Z Fold 5 comes out later this year and becomes the new foldable king. However, one foldable that has been eyeing the throne is the Google Pixel Fold which has been making the rounds for some time now and is finally nearing its release. Now, we have a rumor that the upcoming foldable from Google will undercut the Galaxy Z Fold 4 by almost 27% in terms of price, but is that going to be enough?
Google Pixel Fold has big shoes to fill as it comes closer to entering the market against Samsung and all the other foldable phones
A few days ago, we reported a rumor that the Pixel Fold is going to release somewhere in June, later this year, and will cost €1,700, which would make sense as most flagship foldable phones from big companies cost around the same. For the sake of comparison, Galaxy Z Fold 4 starts at $1,799, and it makes perfect sense. However, shortly after that, another rumor suggested that Google's foldable could undercut Galaxy Z Fold 4 and, essentially, the Galaxy Z Fold 5, costing somewhere between $1300 to $1500. That is a serious bargain for those looking to enjoy a flagship foldable experience.
The tip came from Yogesh Brar, and Brar has also been spot-on with most of the tips in the past. He also talked about how the phone is going to debut at Google I/O 2023 in May, later this year, and will launch in Q3 of this year in select regions.
Both the Pixel 7a and Pixel Fold will make their debut at Google I/O in May.

The price cut might be strange to some, but it makes sense since the Pixel Fold is tipped to run Google's older Tensor G2 chipset instead of the newer, unreleased Tensor G3. However, if the phone turns out to be powering a newer chipset, we might end up seeing retail of over $1,800. Whatever the case might be, Google will have to work hard to prove that it is worthy enough to take on Samsung's foldable as Samsung has been working on foldable phones since 2019 and has made a lot of progress in that time. Google, on the other hand, is relatively new.
Yes, the Tensor will be providing a lot of AI-powered capabilities, but at the end of the day, Google will need an ace up its sleeve if it wishes to make sure that the Pixel Fold is sitting on the throne instead of a Samsung's offering.
