AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D faster than both Core i9-13900K and Core i9-13900KS

3DCenter collected performance data from 16 reviews and hundreds of tests.

AMD Ryzen 7000X3D CPUs left a good impression on reviewers and the gaming community. The flagship model is hardly available at retailers, and almost non-existent at official MSRP. Meanwhile, 3DCenter did an outstanding work on compiling data from multiple media outlets could potentially give us a final answer, whose CPU is faster.

The review data is collected from 16 media, featuring various gaming tests and settings but most were using 720p or 1080p resolutions, which is very common for CPU reviews. Whether that’s the resolution gamers will actually use is a different story, but this is the proper way to saturate the power of the CPU and avoid GPU bottlenecks.

Game settings, graphics card used, memory speed or even a selection of games can skew the results in favour of any company. This is why an analysis of 16 reviews is so important, especially when the performance gap is so narrow. And in the case of Ryzen 9 7950X3D it really is narrow.

Right off the bat we see that the 16-core X3D CPU is 3.8% faster than Core i9-13900K and 2.7% faster than Core i9-13900KS. This is a geometric mean with bigger weights from media that tested more games. As pointed out by 3DCenter, these results will vary, especially when the mean is so small. Furthermore, hardware selection may pay a crucial role in this comparison, after all, Intel can still use faster memory.

What is also mentioned by 3DCenter, the 7950X3D is not only faster, but also consumes a lot less power. This AMD CPU requires only 53% of what Intel i9-13900K does. On the other hand, the Ryzen 7950X3D is not cheap, which is why the X3D impact and wow effect is smaller. However, the upcoming $449 Ryzen 7 7800X3D which is expected to be just as fast as 7950X3D in simulated tests, might put a lot more pressure on Intel 13th Gen series than these Ryzen 9 models.

Unfortunately, due to AMD decision to limit Ryzen 9 7900X3D (12-core) sampling to the press, there are very few results available right now. That said, it might be too early to draw conclusions based on this limited testing.

In summary, Ryzen 9 7950X3D is clearly ahead of Intel in terms of performance and power efficiency, but at the same time it costs considerably more. The platform cost may also pay a crucial role in this comparison, as the AM5 motherboards are expensive, but memory selection should be easier.
