AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE most likely launching at ChinaJoy

AMD confirms taking part in ChinaJoy, which starts tomorrow.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE is an exclusive graphics card created for the Chinese market, with the acronym “GRE” standing for Golden Rabbit Edition. As confirmed to us by board partners, it will not be available for purchase outside of China. It is evident that AIBs are not particularly supportive of the concept of this model, which is somewhat a stripped down RX 7900XT with less memory. Therefore, gamers shouldn’t expect a big launch with a lot of different SKUs.

Nonetheless, the RX 7900 GRE features similar to those of the RX 7900 XT, with 80 Compute Units and new Navi 31 XL GPU. One of the standout differences is the inclusion of a 16GB memory configuration, which has been absent from the desktop RDNA3 lineup for quite some time. This memory configuration implies a 256-bit memory bus and a bandwidth of up to 576 GB/s.

Board partners have been asking for 16GB memory configuration for a while now, but AMD has not released its RX 7800/7700 series yet. So far, nothing suggests they will in the near future, but maybe this GRE model will at least give AMD incentive to replace its 3-year-old RX 6900/6800 models with something newer.

Reports suggest that AMD has already provided press drivers and accompanying details to board partners and media, primarily within China. The speculation is that the card is scheduled to be officially launched on July 28th, coinciding with AMD’s participation in ChinaJoy 2023, for which the company is inviting the Chinese community. That said, it is very likely that AMD will introduce this card tomorrow.
