When Marvel fans noticed that scenes from The Falcon and the Winter Solider were edited down from the original version, many wondered if the streamer was quietly censoring more violent content on the platform.
But it looks like that alternate version was uploaded by mistake. Sources tell TVLine that those censored scenes were published accidentally as part of a version control issue. Disney+ is working on fixing the problem as quickly as possible.
In a scene from Episode 3, titled “Power Broker,” Zemo (played by Daniel Brühl) shoots Wilfred Nagel (Olli Haaskivi), the former Hydra scientist who recreated the Super Soldier Serum, to death. The original version featured the slain man’s body covered in blood splatter with his eyes open. In the censored version, the blood was removed, and his eyes were closed.

In another scene from the episode, Bucky Barnes throws a pipe through an assailant’s shoulder. However, the alternate version features the pipe bouncing off the assailant’s body.
Talk of censorship on Disney+ rose when the platform added Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher — which were previously housed on Netflix — as well as ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on March 16.
Given the graphic nature of several of these shows — like Daredevil and The Punisher, which received TV-MA ratings on Netflix — Disney+ added an update to its Parental Controls. This gave users the option to select content ratings restrictions for each profile and add a PIN to lock certain profiles.
What do you think of Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s censored scenes? Does it make a big impact on your viewing experience? Sound off in the comments.
“The censored scenes were [mistakenly] uploaded to fix a credit.” How does that even work? “Well, while we’re fixing this credit, we also made the pipe bounce off and removed the blood and closed the eyes.”
Disney probably has always had versions without the blood and without the pipe stabbing, just not used for Disney+ in US. Since the credits were wrong, they were probably wrong in all the versions, so they had to correct all the versions, and they just uploaded the wrong version to Disney+ US.
.
Something similar happened not that long ago, where HBO Max re-uploaded “Birds of Prey” with a “clean” version, rather than the original cinema version.
Yeah, I agree. They’d obviously have many different cuts of the show floating around internally, and this one would even be the exact same length as the official release.
It would be really easy for some editor to go in and fix something in the credits of the wrong cut. Or maybe the credits are a separate file and they attached it to the wrong cut. Embarrassing, but plausible.
Fummy… Considering they just recently added Netflix Marvel shows to Disney+ and added new permission levels, I would’t think Disney is quietly trying to trim violent content.
I don’t mind the idea of Disney+ having censored versions of movies for children, but I wish they would do 3 things.
1. Clearly label it as the child version.
2. Warn an adult profile that a child version is being loaded (in case the family hasn’t set up children’s profiles.)
3. In the future if mistakes like this happen, communicate with the customer base sooner. I doubt many people object to family friendly versions of movies and shows, but if they are going to cause a disruption for the rest of us, just tell us instead of making us wonder if it is deliberate.
This is why I have been against the idea of non-MCU shows like Daredevil and Punisher being part of Disney Pus. First its messing with the gritty content next its making Jessica Jones riding unicorns and having tea parties with Snow White and Cinderella.

why is there even a “censored” version? where will it play? disney shows are pretty squeaky already.
