Apple has a decent foldable product portfolio in the works, but when it comes to an actual launch, many reports talk about varying timelines. However, one analyst believes that a 20.3-inch foldable MacBook is the only one that has a clear development schedule in sight, and while that is a positive sign, the drawback is that consumers who are waiting for such a product have to wait an exceptionally long time.

Analyst estimates that Apple’s foldable MacBook will not launch before 2027

A foldable MacBook is said to have been in development previously, but then again, so has a foldable iPhone. Eventually, Apple will have to enter this category, but since the technology giant has a propensity to adopt the latest standards significantly later than the competition, it is unsurprising to learn from Ming-Chi Kuo that the foldable MacBook is not slated to arrive before 2027. Fortunately, the analyst points out that the 20.3-inch machine has a proper development schedule, suggesting that Apple is working behind closed doors to ensure that this product materializes.

Earlier, it was reported that Apple is working on multiple foldable iPhone prototypes, but a few reasons why the company has been hesitant to enter the market are durability issues, not to mention the obvious design blemishes such as that visible crease when the device is completely unfolded, and of course, the high pricing. We expect the foldable MacBook to be plagued by similar problems, so the Cupertino firm is reportedly taking its sweet time with a launch. Several laptop makers are experimenting with unique form factors, with ASUS recently having announced a dual-screen Zenbook Duo that can operate in various orientations to increase productivity.

This is just one of the many examples to highlight what Apple’s competition is up to, but the California-based giant’s upper hand lies in its ability to make robust products, coupled with using its M-series silicon, which we will likely power the foldable MacBook’s innards. Additionally, the 20.3-inch display means that potential buyers will have more screen real estate in the palm of their hands, and they can reduce its overall footprint when they are done for the day and want to store it in their backpacks.

We also have to remind readers that while Apple might have a clear development schedule for the foldable MacBook, if the product does not perform according to the company’s expectations, do not be surprised to learn that it has been delayed or outright canceled since there are chances that this happens.
