Is microLED finally happening in 2023? Samsung has announced microLED TVs for six years straight at CES and this year it tells us to expect microLED TVs down to 50 inches.

We hope it will happen. It would be amazing to have a third self-emitting display technology for TVs, in addition to WOLED and QD-OLED. But we are not holding our breath.

The exact features are not relevant until we see a model number and a launch date, but here is what Samsung Electronics had to say at CES 2023:

- "The 2023 MICRO LED lineup offers new models ranging from 50 to 140-inches to provide consumers with a breadth of options for unparalleled picture quality and screen experience. Thanks to its modular nature, MICRO LED is not bound by shape, ratio and size, making it completely customizable to fit a consumer’s desired set up. In addition, it comes without bezels, so regardless of configuration, the boundary between screen and real life is seamless," said Samsung.

It added that the micro LED line-up will be offered in 50, 63, 76, 89, 101, 114 and 140 inches in 2023. Samsung did not provide details on resolution.

To be clear, microLED is different from the miniLED backlight used in many LCD TVs today. With microLED the LCD panel is gone and each of the millions of tiny microLED pixels generate their own light and color – like OLED. It is what is known as a self-emitting display technology.

And here is what Samsung had to say about the 76" microLED:
