AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D is MicroCenter exclusive

AMD to launch a new processor with 6 cores and 3D V-Cache.

We’ve heard about the 6-core AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D before. This part was named by one of the hardware leakers earlier this month. But just as quickly as the news was shared, it had immediately sparked a debate by people familiar with AMD roadmaps whether such a part is even planned. Turns out it is.

AMD has decided to launch this processor exclusively through MicroCenter, the company confirmed today. This US retailer only be the only launch partner for this processor for the duration of its availability. So, what this essentially means is that 5600X3D will not launch in any other country.

As we have suspected, the 6-core X3D part will cost much less than the 8-core 5800X3D. As reported earlier, this 8-core popular gaming CPU has already been available for as little as $280, meaning that any potential 6-core variant would have to be cheaper. It is now confirmed that 5600X3D will cost $229, which is a great price for a new part for sure, although it is based on an older Zen3 architecture.

MicroCenter confirms the specs of the 6-core CPU at 3.3 GHz base and 4.4 GHz boost, exactly as mentioned in the original report. AMD had to lower the frequencies to comply with strict voltage regulations of the 3D V-Cache designs, so the CPU’s base clock will be a 300 MHz slower compared to Ryzen 5 5600X. In addition, the product has 3 MB of L2 cache and 96 MB of L3 cache, which makes it 99 MB combined.

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D’s TDP has been increased from 65W (5600X) to 105W (like 5800X3D and other high-end Ryzen AM4 parts). The launch price of $229 is much lower than 5600X ($299) but one should not forget this part was released in November 2020, and it already has a successor in a form of 7600X with six Zen4 cores that retails at around $218.
