NVIDIA RTX 4080 12GB now to be called RTX 4070 Ti

As expected, NVIDIA is changing the name of the ‘unlaunched’ GPU.

More than three weeks after NVIDIA announced the change of plans for the RTX 4080 product family, the company has reportedly now confirmed the new name for the RTX 4080 12GB SKU. According to hardware leaker Kopite7kimi, the new name is actually the old name of RTX 4070 Ti. It is old because it did appear in a rumor under one of the proposes pre-launch specs.

The 4070 Ti SKU name was to be expected for many reasons, mainly because the non-Ti variant would probably have to be cut-down from original specs, while the former 4080 12GB specs featured a full AD104 GPU. Such configuration is often associated with Ti variants.

This new RTX 4070 Ti is expected to feature identical specifications, which means 7680 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory. What remains to be confirmed is the pricing. This should be much noticeably lower, given the massive performance gap between RTX 4080 12GB and 16GB variants (24% to 30%).

According to Kopite, the RTX 4070 Ti should launch next year, possibly in January.
