For the first time in Apple’s iPhone launch history, the company will ditch the Lightning port and unveil its iPhone 15 series with a USB-C port instead. Naturally, older EarPods cannot be attached to the newer models, so a fresh rumor claims that the company’s wired earphones are already in mass production to remain prepared for future purchases.

Foxconn will complete USB-C EarPods production responsibility, claims the latest rumor

Apple currently has Lightning EarPods on sale through its website for $19, and it looks like the USB-C version will be sold alongside them when the iPhone 15 family launches. According to reliable tipster ShrimpApplePro, mass production of the new audio accessories is already underway, signaling that Apple will switch to the new interface in a few months. It is not confirmed if there will be a ‘3.5mm audio to USB-C adapter’ sold for existing headphones or earphone owners.

However, knowing what Apple did when removing the 3.5mm audio jack from the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus and introducing a ‘3.5mm audio to Lightning adapter,’ we believe something similar will be sold in the year. Also, while we are on the subject of USB-C EarPods, the tipster does not mention if non-Apple earphones sporting the same connector will be compatible with the iPhone 15 or if Apple will find a way to software lock those products.

Ever since Apple removed the 3.5mm audio jack from its iPhones, EarPods have grown in popularity, as they provide a ‘no nonsense’ solution by allowing users to plug in the cable and enjoy music, video, podcasts, or any kind of media. We do not expect Apple to improve the USB-C versions in terms of build quality, so consumers who are not careful will likely end up replacing these in a few months, much to Apple’s joy.

The company is expected to launch a multitude of products flaunting the USB-C port, such as AirPods charging cases, MagSafe Battery Pack, Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and others. The technology giant has embraced the USB-C future, and we will see this transition later in the year with the inception of the iPhone 15 series.
