Samsung is reported to be readying as many as four foldable smartphones for 2021. There will be reportedly two Galaxy Z Fold models and two Galaxy Z Flip handsets. Going by Samsung’s usual yearly flagship launch schedule, the two Flip models should arrive in the first half of the year, followed by the Fold models in the second half. Now we have a purported launch timeframe for the clamshell folding phone, which may arrive as the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

According to a recent report, Samsung is preparing to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in late March or early April this year. The company has reportedly finalized the design for the next-gen clamshell foldable. However, it has yet to decide on the colorways for the phone.

Galaxy Z Flip 3 may launch in late Q1 or early Q2 2021

Samsung is making some major changes to its yearly flagship launch schedule this year. The Galaxy S21 series is arriving a month ahead of the usual timeframe. However, this change means the company isn’t launching a foldable phone alongside the upcoming flagship series. We may only see a teaser for it at the highly-anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event next week.

There haven’t been a lot of rumors about the Galaxy Z Flip 3 recently either, suggesting that the phone is still far from ready. Perhaps Samsung wants to put some distance between its two high-end phones so they don’t end up competing against each other. A March or April launch for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will certainly give Samsung enough time to focus solely on the Galaxy S21 phones.

While there’s hardly anything left to surprise about the Galaxy S21 series, details about the Galaxy Z Flip 3 are still scarce. There are reports that Samsung may launch two separate variants with and without 5G support. We may see a “Lite” Flip phone as well this year, as Samsung pushes to lower the entry price point of foldable smartphones.

Noted leakster Ice Universe last month claimed that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will get a 120Hz display with narrower bezels. The overall size of the phone might not change much from its predecessor. However, narrower bezels mean the next-gen model will have slightly more screen real estate.

All in all, the 2021 Galaxy Z Flip phones will seemingly be slimmer, lighter, and, hopefully, more affordable as well. We are expecting at least the “Lite” variant to decent into the sub-$1,000 segment. But we will have to wait for more reports to emerge before we can paint a clearer picture of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 series.
