Rosario Dawson is on a desperate search in the first trailer for HBO Max’s DMZ, an adaptation of the DC comic book series by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli.
Premiering with all four episodes on Thursday, March 17, the series is set during a second American civil war that leaves Manhattan a demilitarized zone (DMZ), destroyed and isolated from the rest of the world. Dawson (Marvel’s Luke Cage) stars as fearless and fierce medic Alma Ortega, who sets out on a harrowing journey to find the son she lost at the war’s onset. Meanwhile, Parco Delgado (Star’s Benjamin Bratt), the popular and deadly leader of a powerful gang in the DMZ, wants to rule this new world — and will stop at nothing to secure that outcome.
Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) serves as showrunner and executive-produces with Ava DuVernay (When They See Us); DuVernay also directed the pilot episode.
Ready for some more recent newsy nuggets? Well…
* The CW’s Gotham Knights pilot has cast Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara as siblings Harper and Cullen Row, our sister site Variety reports.
* Netflix has ordered to series The Residence, a murder-mystery drama set in the upstairs, downstairs and backstairs of the White House, from showrunner Paul William Davies (Scandal, For the People) and executive producers Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
* AMC’s forthcoming Interview With the Vampire series has added Assad Zaman (Hotel Portofino, Small Axe) in the role of Rashid.
Which of today’s TVLine Items pique your interest?
Trying to picture how a Civil War realistically splits the country so that Manhattan falls in the middle, geographically. Unless there’s somehow a DMZ completely surrounded by the territory of one side?
Does it fall in the middle geographically? Its destroyed and demilitarized.
I guess my only frame of reference is the one between the Koreas, but it was my understanding that a DMZ is set up as a sort of no-man’s-land buffer between two opposing powers.
Maybe there are other contexts where it might be used.
So, no Matty Roth? Pretty bad decision.
It’s definitely weird they went forward with the property but changed the lead and much of the story. I guess this could be partly due to the writer’s sex scandals but I assume he still is getting paid for this. Also having the new motive be trying to find a lost kid is drawing from a very old well of a storyline.
Poor Matty Roth’s not responsible for Wood’s misconduct. Experiencing DMZ through an outsider’s lenses is definitely a huge part of the appeal of the original. And it’s something that will always work well in fiction if done right.
And Dawson’s character just seems like a revamp of Zee anyway, so it’s not like they’re going with something totally new.
do we know who the villain in gotham knights comic is so we can expect them to show up in the show?
It’s not based on any particular comic or storyline
The CW’s Gotham Knights pilot has cast Fallon Smythe and Tyler DiChiara as siblings Harper and Cullen Row,
I hope they cast Gotham and Gotham Girl
That’s great still thinks it’s should be Stephanie Brown or Cassandra Cain leading and it’s should be heroes and villains children and since we can’t get a Batman show the premise should be their parents murder with Batwoman and they are framed for it
Not a fan of Harper Row.. I’d also rather have Stephanie and Cassandra.
Can we PLEASE get an adaptation of DMZ that remains true to the source material? I don’t expect there to be no changes, but it at least has to be recognizable.
We get Bluebird (Harper) in the new Gotham series.
Kind of incredible that DMZ got made in the #metoo era given the backstory with its writer Brian Wood.
But hey, if there’s money to be made…
It would be interesting to see if Batwoman is renewed, just from the stand point of is there room for two different shows set in Gotham where Batman is dead/missing.
Looking forward to Interview with the Vampire. R.I.P. Anne.
Cannot wait for Interview with a vampire series…loved the movie
