Google Stadia is making its way to iOS soon

Google’s cloud gaming platform Stadia turns a year old today, and soon, the service will be making its way to Apple’s iOS platform. Public testing for iOS will begin rolling out “several weeks from now,” Google announced Thursday, and like other cloud gaming services, will utilize a web app in order to bypass Apple’s onerous App Store rules.

Stadia has been available on Android mobile devices since the service launched in 2019, but a native Stadia app for Apple aficionados has remained elusive. Luna, Amazon’s cloud gaming competitor, will also use a web app to deliver game streaming to iOS devices.

In addition to confirming the imminent rollout of Stadia for iOS platforms, Google also announced that customers who pre-order CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 for Stadia can get a free Stadia Premiere Edition — that’s the bundle that includes a Google Chromecast Ultra and a Stadia controller for playing on a TV. That deal runs through Dec. 18.

Additionally, Bungie’s Destiny 2: New Light will be free to all Stadia players as of Nov. 19, and IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 will be the first Stadia game to fully implement State Share. That’s the technology that lets Stadia players jump in and play the content they see in videos and screenshots shared via links or on YouTube. Hitman 3 will be released on Stadia and other platforms in January 2021.
