One of the many reasons people prefer iPhones over other devices is that the phones retain their value better than Android. Sadly, the same is true with ultra-premium Samsung phones that fail to retain their value. Sure, everything depreciates, but Apple products, for some reason, do not depreciate that much, and today we have a survey that shows just how big of a hit Samsung's latest flagship--the Galaxy S23 took just two months after its launch.

The Galaxy S23 losing its value as compared to iPhone 14 reflects how Apple manages to retain its market value despite tough competition

In case you are wondering why anyone would be concerned about smartphone value after its launch, many users decide to sell their devices once a new one comes out, and the better the value retention, the lesser they will have to spend in order to get a new phone. This means that if you are jumping from iPhone 13 to iPhone 14, you will have to pay less as compared to an instance where you are upgrading from the Galaxy S22 to the Galaxy S23.

According to a survey by SellCell, a marketplace where you can sell your devices, the Galaxy S23 managed to lose a good chunk of its value two months after launch. The Pixel 7 also suffered a similar fate, but the iPhone 14 did not lose as much of its value. Here is a table comparing the drop in the value of all three devices.

In the table above, you can see the Pixel 7 lost 45.9% of its value after 2 months, the Galaxy lost 43.3%, and the iPhone 14 lost 31% of its total value after two months. Below, you can see a table showing even more variants of the same phones and average depreciation.

You can see that Galaxy S23, in "like new" condition, has lost 43.3% of its original value on average. The 1TB variant of Galaxy S23 Ultra lost over 52.7% of its value after two months, which is a significant drop in price for a device of that caliber. On average, iPhones did better, and Pixels did slightly worse than Galaxy devices.

Honestly, the Galaxy S23 losing almost half of its value might seem like a shock to many people, but in reality, it does not make that big of a difference when you consider other factors. Additionally, you can always sell your device to someone who is going to use the phone instead of someone who is going to buy the device from you and then sell it to another user.

Do you think the loss of smartphone value is something that concerns you, or has it ever been a reason why you prefer Apple over Samsung and other brands? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
