We have heard on various instances that Apple will make the iPhone portless. Up until now, the company has only removed the headphone jack, but the rest of the ports remain as they were almost a decade ago. We are now hearing that Apple will incorporate solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro models, which will launch later this year with a haptic solution. According to the latest, the iPhone 15 Pro will feature a single elongated volume button instead of two individual buttons.

iPhone 15 Pro will ditch the physical volume buttons in favor of a single solid-state button, Mute Switch is also rumored to switch to a singular button

We have already seen the CAD renders of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, which tell us a lot about the design and other details. Spotted by Daniel from ZomeofTech, the solid-state buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro models features two pins for button attachment. In contrast, the standard iPhone 15 models feature two pins on each volume button.

We have previously reported that the solid-state buttons will only be available with the iPhone 15 Pro models. With the two pins in the entire volume button slot, we can safely presume that the device will feature an elongated single button for volume controls. Since Apple does not require the physical clickiness of the buttons to input a command, it eliminates the need to house two individual buttons.

On the contrary, the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus CAD renders reveal a different design. There are two pins for attachment on each volume button, and it confirms that the solid-state buttons are only coming with the 'Pro' models. Additionally, Daniel also claims that Apple will eliminate the mute switch in favor of a solid-state button as well. According to the CAD images, the mute switch is different on the iPhone 15 Pro compared to the standard models.

If Apple goes with its plans, we might see unified volume controls on the iPhone 15 Pro models and a static mute switch. This will eliminate two openings in the device which will contribute to better water resistance. Furthermore, since there will be fewer moving parts within the device, it will be more durable compared to the physical buttons. The solid-state buttons will make use of additional Taptic engines for prominent haptic feedback.

Apple will continue to offer the iPhone 15 Pro with premium features compared to the standard models. This year, all four models will come with Dynamic Island, but the chip powering the device will be different. We have recently reported that the 'Pro' models will feature the A17 Bionic chip based on TSMC's 3nm process, which will bring enhanced CPU and GPU capabilities. We will share more details on the device soon, so be sure to stick around.
