NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti is getting twice the memory soon
According to Andreas Schilling (HardwareLuxx), NVIDIA board partners seem uninterested in the upcoming launch of another RTX 4060 Ti graphics card.
NVIDIA announced that it will be providing two memory configurations for its latest desktop graphics card, the RTX 4060 Ti, part of the Ada Lovelace family. This new card boasts an 16GB of GDDR6 memory, which is double the capacity of the currently available RTX 4060 Ti SKU. However, despite NVIDIA’s expectations, there seems to be a lack of interest from gamers, as we have previously reported.
The initial release of the RTX 4060 Ti with 8GB of memory was priced at $399, which many consider to be quite high, especially when compared to the competitive offerings from AMD’s RDNA2 and Intel’s Arc series in terms of price-to-performance ratio. Despite this, NVIDIA has not altered its plans for the RTX 4060 non-Ti model, which is priced $100 lower, yet still fails to generate much excitement among gamers.
Now, NVIDIA is making another attempt with the upcoming 16GB Ti model, which will be priced at $499. However, it’s important to note that this increase in memory capacity will be the only significant change, as the GPU core count, the limited 128-bit memory bus, and even the TDP will remain the same. As a result, the advantages of upgrading to a higher memory capacity will be relatively minor.
The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti with 16 GB of graphics memory should only have one purpose: To quiet those critics who find that 8 GB are not enough (I’ll tell you a little secret: that’s right!). But the better equipped model is not very attractive in terms of price and positioning.

Given the limited number of models announced for the new Ti card, Andreas decided to reach out to various board partners for their insights on the matter. Their response was unsurprising: the lack of attractiveness stems from the high price of this model.
According to the latest information, the NVIDIA RTX 4060 Ti is scheduled to launch on July 18th, with launch reviews likely to precede the release. It’s worth noting that there won’t be a Founders Edition available for this launch, as the new series will exclusively feature board partner designs. Ultimately, the success of the new NVIDIA SKU will depend on the board partners’ pricing and their ability to lower the margins when necessary.
