Sabrent has showcased its next-gen storage solution based on the latest PCIe interface

Rocket X5 is Sabrent’s storage solution based on the M.2 2280 form factor. It is poised to revolutionize the market with its high sequential read speed, which can reach up to 14 GB/s. This is nearly double the performance offered by Gen4 storage.

Although the Rocket X5 storage has not been released yet, ServeTheHome has shared some exciting preliminary data. Sabrent, a company that has yet to release its first PCIe Gen5 storage, is making a noteworthy late entry into the race.

Back in March of this year, the company provided a glimpse of its Rocket storage, boasting read speeds as high as 12.4 GB/s and write speeds of 11.8 GB/s. However, it seems that Sabrent has managed to push the limits even further, achieving even greater performance.

Sabrent has shared a test result conducted on the 2TB version of the Rocket X5 using CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4. The results are impressive, with the Rocket X5 achieving speeds of 14,179 MB/s for read operations and 12,280 MB/s for write operations. Additionally, the random 4K performance is promising, with read speeds reaching 106 MB/s and write speeds reaching 448 MB/s. These figures are an improvement compared to the March results of 100 MB/s and 388 MB/s, respectively.

Equipped with an active heatsink featuring a fan, the Rocket X5 aims to effectively manage heat dissipation. However, there is no information available regarding the efficiency of this cooling solution or how the storage performance would be affected if it were placed under a motherboard heatsink. Nevertheless, Sabrent’s first Gen5 storage solution should be a compelling choice when compared to other options that offer speeds of 10-12 GB/s.
