AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D in Geekbench: slower multi-core, similar single-core to 7950X

The first benchmark score of Ryzen 9 7950X3D.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the upcoming 16-core and 32-thread processor equipped with 64MB of 3D V-Cache. This is the flagship Ryzen CPU for the AM5 socket, to be released later this month.

The processor was tested on an ASUS X670E Hero motherboard and paired with 32GB of DDR5 memory of unknown speed. Geekbench data shows that the CPU was running with 5.1 to 5.68 GHz clocks throughout the benchmark.

The X3D series was not expected to show its strength in synthetic benchmarks, such as Geekbench. This was already known since 5800X3D SKU with Zen3 architecture, which was just as fast as 5800X in such tests. The benefits of increased cache will be more apparent in gaming workloads, which Geekbnech simply does not test.

However, just for clarity, the 7950X3D scores 2157 points in single-core test and 21841 points in multi-core. This is the V5 version of Geekbench, so scores might be different with the updated software.

These scores are worse than 7950X by 5% in multi-core test and less than 2% in single-core. One should note that the average 7950X score is based on many results, whereas the 7950X3D is just sourced from one run. Therefore, those are not comparable results. Furthermore, we know nothing about the memory specs or if it was running the latest BIOS.

What is clear from these tests is that AMD Ryzen 7000X3D series are now available to reviewers, and we should hear more about these CPUs very soon, hopefully with more data on gaming performance as well.
