Update: ComputerBase claims that some custom RX 7900 cards should be ready for December 13th launch.

Initial launch of AMD Radeon RX 7900 GPUs to be limited to reference models only

Custom Radeon RX 7900 cards rumored to launch 1 to 2 weeks later.

According to the BoardChannels news, the launch of Radeon RX 7900 series on December 13th could initially be limited to ‘public models’. This obviously refers to the MBA (Made by AMD) reference design that is to be offered by all major board partners.

It is said that custom models are to appear 1 to 2 weeks later, without stating any reason. At the time of writing, no board partner has even shared the full specs of their cards, not to mention the fact that only two manufacturers have showcased their cards thus far (ASUS and PowerColor).

AMD Radeon launch being limited to reference models is not uncommon, though. This way AMD can ensure that at least for a limited time there will be no overcharge on their cards, simply because they are all the same. On the other hand, custom models may appear at any moment, making it harder to purchase the most desired card.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 Series graphics cards are expected to be available from AMD.com beginning December 13, 2022, and from leading board partners including ASRock, ASUS, Biostar, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vastarmor, XFX and Yeston beginning mid-December. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX has an SEP of $999 USD, while the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT has an SEP of $899 USD.

Back in September, AMD confirmed to be working with several board partners for the Radeon 7900 launch. At least 10 brands are to have their RX 7900 designs eventually. According to the same quote, those cards are to be available starting from mid-December.
