ASUS new firmware lowers gaming performance of ROG Ally console
The company representative suggests holding off with the update.
HotHardware reports that the ASUS ROG Ally 319 firmware update which is now available through MyASUS software, damages the performance of the console. The Ryzen Z1 Extreme-based handheld device has seen a major performance uplift with one of the pre-release firmware updates, but the 319 BIOS appears to significantly diminish those gains.
The 319 firmware was said to improve the 9W gaming experience, but upon testing, reviewers have concluded that it does not improve it, in fact, it is actually worse. The worst part is that performance is even worse with 15W and 25W TDP, which was presented by YouTubers like ThePhawX.

Even though the 319 firmware actually fixes some bugs, an ASUS rep does not advise upgrading just yet. ASUS marketer Whiston Gordon has confirmed that the company is aware of users experiencing worse performance, so holding off with the update is recommended.
Gamers who have already updated the firmware should either wait for ASUS to fix the performance regression issue or manually downgrade their BIOS using the ASUS EZ Flash utility. This process may be complicated for some users, though. Sadly, ASUS did not communicate when the new BIOS would become available, if there is any planned in the near future at all.
Worth noting that AMD is sluggish with Radeon drivers updates for Phoenix-based APUs (Ryzen Z1/Ryzen 7 7840U). The company did not yet merge its main Radeon GPU driver branch with Radeon RX 7600 desktop GPU and RDNA3 integrated GPU series, leaving gamers without the latest optimizations.
