NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 “GB202” GPU rumored to feature 192 SMs and 512-bit memory bus, according to “kopite7kimi”

GB202 to feature 192 Streaming Multiprocessors

The most trusted NVIDIA leaker, Kopite7kimi is ready to talk details on Blackwell flagship gaming GPU. 

According to Kopite, the GB100 Blackwell data-center GPU is set to utilize 10 TPCs (Texture Processing Clusters) within each of its 8 GPCs (Graphics Processing Clusters). This configuration suggests an increase in the total core count over GH100 (8×9), unless NVIDIA decides to alter the CUDA layout within these TPCs, which currently appears improbable.

What’s even more noteworthy is that details about the GB202 GPU configuration have also been hinted at, reportedly featuring 12 GPCs with 8 TPCs each, resulting in a total of 192 SMs (two per TPC), in line with previous leaks. To clarify, while the GB1XX GPU family is designed for data centers, the GB2XX series is explicitly intended for gaming and potentially workstation applications. It will power NVIDIA’s next-generation gaming experience. Unfortunately, information regarding the design of Tensor and RT Cores remains undisclosed at this point.

This 192 SM setup equates to 24,576 CUDA cores, unless there are alterations down the line. This represents a noteworthy 1/3 increase compared to the AD102 Ada Lovelace GPU, which currently serves as the flagship for the RTX 40 series. However, it’s worth mentioning that, as of now, with no sign of an RTX 4090 Ti, NVIDIA has yet to fully utilize the 144 SM count for gaming purposes, with the closest offering being the RTX 6000 ADA model featuring 142 enabled SMs.

Of greater significance, Kopite reaffirms earlier rumors regarding the inclusion of a 512-bit memory bus in the GB202 GPU. It’s worth noting that this configuration may not be employed in the RTX 5090. If we assume that the RTX 50 series is indeed adopting GDDR7 memory technology, this would naturally result in a considerable boost in memory bandwidth.

NVIDIA roadmap suggested that the Ada Lovelace successor is set to launch in 2025; however, some rumors suggest it may be sooner. The exact configuration of RTX 5090 GPU is, of course, impossible to know this early. Furthermore, other leakers say that NVIDIA GB202 is yet to tape out and there are variants that may still be chosen instead. However, given the track record and confidence from Kopite, NVIDIA is heading towards finalizing the specs for its next gen flagship gaming GPU.
