Intel Emerald Rapids Xeon Platinum 8580 with 60 cores and 350W to feature 420MB of combined L2 and L3 cache
YuuKi_AnS has released screenshots featuring Intel’s unreleased Xeon Scalable CPU listed as Platinum 8580.
The sample under evaluation happens to be the ES2 version of an engineering sample of the Intel Emerald Rapids variant. It’s important to note that this particular unit is expected to exhibit variances when compared to the QS (Qualification Sample) and subsequent retail versions of the CPU, although sometimes these differences are minimal. Emerald Rapids is the next iteration of the Xeon CPU for the Eagle Stream platform, succeeding Sapphire Rapids, which encountered a one-year delay.
Emerald Rapids brings to the forefront an updated dual-chiplet design boasting 60 cores and 120 threads. It is characterized by the utilization of the Raptor Cove CPU architecture, exclusively relying on P-Cores. Each core within this CPU is equipped with 2MB of L2 cache, resulting in a cumulative 120MB L2 cache for the entire processor. Additionally, the CPU boasts a substantial 300MB of L3 cache, bringing the overall cache size to an impressive 420MB.

While this cache size represents a noteworthy 2.6x increase compared to Sapphire Rapids, it still falls short of the cache capacities offered by AMD EPYC Genoa and Genoa-X series, which can reach up to 480MB and a substantial 1.5GB of L3 cache, respectively.
Yuuki testing involved AIDA64 benchmark as well as Cinebench latest 2024 release. There is also a CPU-Z test, but one must underline that this CPU is not a retail unit but an ES2 limited to 2.0 GHz clocks, certainly not a record breaker. So what this leak confirms is the CPU configuration and ability of the early sample to perform various tests nearly 3 months ahead of launch.
