It appears that the Intel 14th Gen Core series might be just around the corner. 

Today marks the beginning of Intel’s new desktop leaks, as the first glimpse of Raptor Lake Refresh appears in Bapco software. The updated CPU series, designed for the LGA1700 socket, promises higher clock speeds and more cores in one case.

The leak confirms the names of two processors: the Core i9-14900K, which serves as the flagship CPU, and the Core i7-14700K with 20 cores. Notably, the Core i7 series experiences a significant jump in core count compared to its predecessor, going from 16 cores in the 13700 model to 20 cores.

The benchmark results reveal that both CPUs run on 16GB of DDR5-4800 memory alongside an RTX 4090 GPU. Some may find the memory choice to be underwhelming, given the platform’s potential support for 6400 MT/s JEDEC specs. However, it’s essential to bear in mind that these are the initial benchmarks and primarily serve as a platform validation rather than a full-fledged performance test.

In terms of performance, the Core i9-14900K appears to be 14 to 20% faster than the Core i7-14700K across all benchmarks on average. More importantly, in comparison to Core i9-13900K it becomes obvious that the CPU is not running at its full potential because it is easily outperformed by current-gen CPU by 1% to 16% (results here).

According to the rumors, Intel will launch its desktop CPU series in October, but the series should be officially unveiled in September during the Intel Innovation event.
