Replace Siri with Google Assistant and Get Answers to More Complex Questions Right on Your iPhone and iPad
If you are deeply tied into Apple's ecosystem then Siri is the way to go for a lot of reasons. But, if you are a fan of overall smarts then even you can't deny how great Google Assistant is. There's even a chance that you are planning to drop Siri as your personal assistant altogether. If so, and you want to replace it with Google Assistant then follow the tutorial posted below.
Download Google Assistant for iPhone and iPad
First and foremost, download and install the Google Assistant app from the App Store - it's absolutely free. Once downloaded, launch it once, set it up and give it the necessary permissions for it to work.
Create the 'Hey Google' Shortcut
Step 1. Launch the Shortcuts app on your iPhone or iPad
Step 2. Tap on the + icon on the top right hand corner
Step 3. Tap on Add Action
Step 4. Search for Assistant
Step 5. Tap on Assistant under the Apps section at the top
Step 6. You'll now see a list of actions. Tap on Hey Google
Step 7. Tap on Next at the top right hand corner
Step 8. Name the Shortcut Hey Google
How to Use the New Shortcut
For this to work properly, you must have Siri enabled on your device. You can make sure it's enabled by going to Settings > Siri & Search.
Step 1. Press and hold the power button on your iPhone or iPad until Siri shows up
Step 2. Now say Hey Google followed by your request
Alternatively, you can say 'Hey Siri' followed by 'Hey Google' to do the same thing. Or, you can just launch the Shortcuts app, tap on the newly created Hey Google shortcut and speak away your request.
Once you've given your request, iOS or iPadOS will launch the Google Assistant app and show you the results of the query there.
While you can do a lot of things with Google Assistant on your iPhone and iPad, it may or may not be as full featured as its Android counterpart. You can ask it to play something on YouTube app, but you won't be able to launch system apps such as Photos. But, if you have Google Photos installed, then it will work just fine. Basically, it plays nicely with Google's own services. It won't allow you to send text messages or iMessage. For that, you have to use Siri.
