New Zealand retailer offers NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 at lower price than Radeon RX 7800 XT

On launch day, GALAX is selling its RTX 4070 for 999 NZD, cheaper than the RX 7800 XT.

A local promotion that may pave the way for cheaper RTX 4070 cards elsewhere?

Gamers from New Zealand rejoice. Unlike their counterparts from other countries, they might actually have a harder decision to make. The Radeon RX 7800XT and RX 7700XT cards from AMD have just been released, and it appears that some sellers have enough stock of the RTX 4070 models they’d be happy to part with.

GALAX RTX 4070 OC X2 is not a premium model rather the closest the company gets to offering a card at MSRP. This dual-fan model has just been lowered to 999 NZD with taxes, which is a bit cheaper than Radeon RX 7800XT at the same store.

The tip from our reader claims that the price was lowered just an hour before the Radeon card was released. The cheapest models go for around $1,018.99, which is just about the same price as some premium RX 7700 XT cards.

None of the major retailers that we checked had any change in pricing for RTX 4070, meaning that this store’s offer is an outlier that doesn’t reflect the global market. In addition, New Zealand and Australia tend to have higher prices at launch. On the other hand, we did not find RX 7800 XT at a lower price, and PB Tech appears to be one of the largest retailers in the country.

At this point, gamers should be aware of how Radeon RX 7800 XT performs and whether it is a suitable alternative to RTX 4070 at its lower price (maybe not in this example). Nevertheless, the NVIDIA card is expected to get a price adjustment at some point, just as RTX 4060 TI 16GB did, a model now competing with RX 7700XT.
